Academic Integrity is essential to an educational School and to the whole educational experience. Individual students, faculty, staff members, and the school’s organizations must affirm this quality. The importance of integrity and ethics will be portrayed by faculty in their course instruction and will be an integral part of School life at Brilliant Academy Health Center. The Academic Integrity Policy requires that all members of the School conduct themselves honestly in all endeavors. Therefore, cheating, plagiarism, and other acts contrary to academic integrity are unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Brilliant Academy Health Center.
Brilliant Academy Health Center’s guiding principles follow Florida Statue CHAPTER 1005.07, which clearly states the following:
“Patient safety instructional requirements. —Each private school, School, and university that offers degrees in medicine, nursing, and allied health shall include in the curricula applicable to such degree’s material on patient safety, including patient safety improvement. Materials shall include, but need not be limited to, effective communication and teamwork; epidemiology of patient injuries and medical errors; medical injuries; vigilance, attention, and fatigue; checklists and inspections; automation, technological, and computer support; psychological factors in human error; and reporting systems”.
Healthcare education is highly stressful, and students may feel overwhelmed by the amount of work they need to accomplish and the pressure to achieve passing grades. The student may, at times, be short of time, with several assignments, tests, and quizzes. However, cheating, plagiarism, and fabrication are not the answer.
Students must understand that the failure to uphold principles of academic integrity threatens the reputation of the School and the value of the degrees and diplomas awarded to its students. Every member of the School is, therefore, responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of academic integrity are upheld. Students are encouraged to be responsible for understanding the principles of academic integrity and abiding by these values in all aspects of their work at the School. Behavior that is contrary to both academic integrity standards and ethical standards constitutes a reason for academic withdrawal and/or expulsion from the School.
These behaviors are considered a breach of expected student academic integrity and conduct and may result in disciplinary action.- Not reporting errors or omissions in patient care.
- Stealing from patients, hospitals, the school, or fellow students.
- Sharing confidential information with unauthorized persons.
- Forging of any documents.
- Giving information about test items to others or other behavior indicative of “cheating” or academic dishonesty.
- Submitting written work that is not your own.
- Lying about anything related to or associated with student activity or responsibilities when operating as a Brilliant Academy Health Center student.
- If patient safety is compromised, the nursing facility or the instructor has the discretion and authority to remove a student from the clinical site.
- If a second incident occurs, the Program Director or Administrator will evaluate the eligibility of the student to continue the programs.
- Cheating—Using or attempting to use crib sheets, electronic sources, stolen exams, or unauthorized study aids in an academic assignment or assessment, or copying or colluding with a fellow student in an effort to improve one’s grade.
