Advanced Placement Requirements

Brilliant Academy Health Center, Associate Degree in Nursing offers an advanced placement admission option for students who possess a current unrestricted license as a practical nurse (LPN). Applicants who have disciplinary charges from any Board of Nursing will not be considered for admission. Brilliant Academy Health Center recognizes the prior learning that has occurred and is required for Practical Nursing Licensure and therefore, Licensed Practical Nurses are eligible to apply for Advanced Placement in the Associate of Science in Nursing program.

Criteria For Advanced Placement

The advanced placement student shall meet the following admission criteria

  • Students must be licensed to practice in a State in the United States
  • Proof of current LPN license in good standing.
  • Submit Official Transcripts from your LPN Program.
  • Applicant has been employed as an LPN for at least one year since being licensed.
  • Applicant has been employed at a facility and worked a minimum of 800 hours.
  • Complete the attached Employment Verification Form to demonstrate that they have been professionally employed as an LPN within the last year. Applicant does NOT need to be continuously employed to qualify.
  • Employers will return the form to the Registrar.
  • Completion of the ATI Fundamentals Assessment PN Test. Applicants are limited to two attempts within an application cycle, regardless of the testing site and program to which they are applying. Students must score at proficiency Level 2 (80%) or higher.

ATI Fundamentals Assessment Test

  • The Fundamentals Assessment Test is a validation test designed to evaluate previous nursing learning and knowledge of LPNs seeking to enter the Associate of Science Degree Nursing through Advanced Placement.
  • Applicants are limited to two attempts within an application cycle, regardless of the testing site and program to which they are applying. Students must score at proficiency Level 2 (80%) or higher.
  • Results will be available immediately.
  • An applicant may take the admission test two times during an admission cycle. There must be at least six months between each test and the most recent test results will be used for admission.

Advanced Placement Credit

Applicants to the program who have earned a Diploma in Practical Nursing and provide official transcripts from a College approved by an agency recognized by either the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the U.S. Department of Education, or the Florida Department of Education, possess an unencumbered Practical Nursing License, Eight Hundred (800hrs) work experience as an LPNs and Pass the ATI Fundamentals Assessment Test with proficiency Level 2 (80%) or higher will receive credit for following courses (they will appear as “TC” on the transcript):

  • Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Principles of Nutrition
  • RN 101 Fundamentals of Nursing
  • RN 108 Clinical Competencies 1
  • RN 109 Clinical Competencies II
