PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program is designed to prepare students for employment as a home attendant or home health aide or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.

This program is designed to prepare students for employment as advanced cross-trained nursing assistants (patient care technicians), (Health Technologists and Technicians), Health Care Technicians, Patient Care Assistants, Nursing Aides and Orderlies, Home Health Aides, or Allied Health Assistants. This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills, expanding the traditional role of the nursing assistant for both acute and long-term care settings.

The program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the healthcare industry; planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues, and health, safety, and environmental issues

The prelicensure practical nursing program is designed to prepare students to become licensed practical/vocational nurses who provide direct care to patients in a variety of settings The student must complete laboratory and/or clinical rotations in Fundamentals, Pharmacology, Maternity, Pediatric, Medical Surgical, Community, Geriatric, and Mental Health, plus Leadership and Management. Upon graduation, students should be well-prepared to take the national licensing examination (NCLEX-PN®), which they must pass before they can be employed as licensed practical nurses.

Students will learn in three learning segments:

At the completion of the program, the student will be able to:

Students who successfully meet all graduation requirements from Brilliant Academy Health Center are eligible to apply for NCLEX PN with the Florida Board of Nursing Graduates must successfully pass the NCLEX PN to be able to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

**The Board of Nursing may give a student approval to work as a graduate nurse for a short and temporary period of time while awaiting licensure.

Advanced Placement

Applicants to the Professional Nursing who have earned a Diploma in Practical Nursing and provide official transcripts from a School approved by an agency recognized by either the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the U.S. Department of Education, or the Florida Department of Education, possess an unencumbered Practical Nursing License, Eight Hundred (800hrs) work experience as an LPNs and Pass the ATI Fundamentals Assessment Test with proficiency Level 2 (80%) or higher will receive credit for following courses (they will appear as “TC” on the transcript):

  • Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Principles of Nutrition
  • RN 101 Fundamentals of Nursing
  • RN 108 Clinical Competencies 1
  • RN 109 Clinical Competencies II

The student will be required to successfully complete, GEN107 Transition to Registered Nursing), a transition course for students entering the Associate of Science Nursing program prior to beginning N103 Medical Surgical Nursing I, RN104 Pharmacology Nursing, and RN105 Gerontology Nursing.
