Ability to Benefit Requirement Policy
Students who indicate on the Application for Admission to Brilliant Academy Health Center do not have a recognized high school diploma (i.e., High School Completion Diploma or Transcripts, advanced studies diploma, standard diploma, modified standard diploma, or general achievement diploma) or the recognized equivalent, i.e., a general education development (GED) certificate, must pass an ATB test, administered by the Academy, prior to being admitted as a curricular student.
ATB students may not be permitted into academic degree programs
ACCUPLACER
The Accuplacer is the designated ATB test for Brilliant Academy Health Center. ACCUPLACER is a computerized ATB test that helps the Academy evaluate the student for admission. ACCUPLACER offers tests in reading, writing, and math. The student will receive their ACCUPLACER test results immediately upon completion of testing, as well as a score report.
Reading, Writing, and Math Tests
ACCUPLACER’s Reading; Writing; Arithmetic; Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics; and Advanced Algebra and Functions tests each have a score range of 200–300, broken down into five score bands.

Ability to Benefit Test FAQ
1. Do I need an appointment to take the ATB test?
Yes. If you do not have a High School Diploma or Equivalent. The ATB test is administered by appointment only. Please contact the admissions department at your campus for more information, or call
2. Am I required to take the Ability-to-Benefit Test?
The Ability-to-Benefit test is required of students without a high school diploma or GED. Hence, these students must demonstrate they possess sufficient “ability to benefit” (ATB) from post-secondary education via their performance in an approved test.
3. What does the Ability-to-Benefit Test Consists of?
The Department of Education requires that students take the Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, and Arithmetic tests in a single testing session. You must earn the Brilliant Academy Health Center required passing scores in one sitting. If you do not obtain a passing score on one or more sections of tests you will have an opportunity to retest for sections failed after fourteen days. If the student does not pass after four attempts in 12 months the student may be denied admission.
4. What is the retake policy?
Students are allowed to retake the test once every fourteen days for a maximum of four times per year. There must be a fourteen-day waiting period between tests. All retesting must be done on the ATB testing site.
